เรื่องราว “จินยางแทกุน” (องค์ชายจินยาง นาม “ลีคัง” พระโอรสองค์รอง)  กับ “อึนซองแทกุน” (องค์ชายอึนซอง นาม “ลีฮวี” พระโอรสองค์ที่สาม)  ซึ่งเป็นพี่น้องร่วมบิดามารดา เนื่องจากพระเชษฐาของทั้งคู่เป็นองค์ชายรัชทายาทที่ร่างกายอ่อนแอตั้งแต่เด็ก องค์ชายจินยาง (ซึ่งเป็นผู้สืบสันตติวงศ์ลำดับที่สอง) เลยถูกส่งไปอยู่ตำหนักนอกวังตามลำพังตั้งแต่แรกเกิด เพื่อจะได้ไม่เป็นภัยต่อการสืบทอดราชบัลลังก์ของรัชทายาท ถึงกระนั้นเขาก็มี “ยางอันแทกุน” (องค์ชายยางอัน) ผู้เป็นลุงคอย (เสี้ยม) สอน ขัดเกลา และพยายามทำทุกวิถีทางเพื่อให้เขาได้เป็นพระราชา
